Strongly contrasted lighting settings have always been of great difficulty to many cameras. The way light can be dark, well-lit, or overly bright gives cameras fits. Sony’s XDNR and View-DR handles such situations extraordinarily well. Noise reduction works at both the 2DNR and 3DNR levels while the wide dynamic range engages at high db levels. The extreme WDR utilizes an electronic shutter to quickly snap multiple images simultaneously with each frame then being reproduced at graduating levels of clarity through the use of altering exposure times. Additionally, captured light is converted to electrons instead of disposing of them as most cameras do. This effectively doubles the db range (120+) for the Sony camera as compared to many competitors. Chrominance and luminance are maintained through the use of the Exmore CMOS sensor, specifically designed to handle rapid and high-speed readouts.

Basically, this is a pretty nifty and whiz-bang technology.
