Axis’s P-Iris was developed by Axis Communications of Sweden and Kowa Company of Japan. The P-Iris is an automatically controlled precise iris. Compared to the auto-iris lens, the precise-iris (P-Iris) provides better clarity, resolution, and depth of field. For example, it avoids diffraction (blurring) when the iris becomes too narrow. Because many sensors produce small pixels, this ability to compensate for blurring is an excellent utility in handling outdoor settings. A motor automatically positions the precise iris. Combined with all the other Axis technologies, the P-Iris basically helps maximize image quality. It removes an important bottleneck in other irises that can blur or diffract images, making clever technologies like WDR or noise reduction a little less useful than they should be.
