Connectors
Connectors are considered the wire and attaching devices used to connect security cameras, recorders, and correlating systems. Such wires include ethernet, coaxial, pigtail, and other cables used in modern security systems. Specific to the attaching devices, connectors have male and female connectors typical for ethernet and coaxial. Extenders are also included due to them being complimentary with such devices. While each of these devices is typically available with each larger product, these devices are usually developed as a replacement.
Different types of connectors for CCTV and IP applications. The most common is the BNC connector. There are several types of BNC connectors but the most common are twist on, crimp on, and compression. The twist style are the easiest to use since they do not require any tools to install. Twist on connectors are recomended for DIYers. Crimp and compression are recommended for security camera installers. IP cameras require ethernet cable which use RJ45 connectors. RJ45 connectors come in several styles like the BNC connectors. The most common is the crimp on RJ45 module.
Altronix, AXIS, Bosch, Dahua, DH Vision, GeoVision, LTS Security, Speco, Ubiquiti, Vivotek, W Box Technologies are manufacturers with products available on A1 Security Cameras.
Security Camera Connectors FAQ
What are camera connectors?
Camera connectors are essential components used to establish electrical connections between cameras and other devices in surveillance, imaging, or recording systems. These connectors facilitate the transfer of data, power, and signals. Common camera connectors include BNC connectors for analog video, RJ45 connectors for IP cameras and Ethernet-based systems, DC power jacks for electrical power, HDMI connectors for high-definition video, and audio connectors for sound. The choice of connector depends on the camera type and the specific needs of the application, ensuring seamless communication and functionality.

What connector do security cameras use?
Security cameras typically use one of several types of connectors to establish connections with cables and other devices. The choice of connector depends on the camera's type, technology, and manufacturer. Here are some common connectors used in security camera installations:
- BNC Connector: This is a common connector used for analog CCTV cameras. BNC connectors are used for transmitting video signals over coaxial cables. They provide a secure and reliable connection and are widely used in analog surveillance systems.
- RJ45 Connector: Ethernet cameras, which are often IP cameras, typically use RJ45 connectors. These connectors are used for connecting Ethernet cables (Cat5e, Cat6, etc.) to transmit data and power (with Power over Ethernet or PoE) to the cameras. RJ45 connectors are commonly used in network-based surveillance systems.
- DC Power Jack: Many security cameras, both analog and IP, have a DC power jack for connecting a power supply or power over coaxial (PoC) technology. This allows the camera to receive electrical power from a separate power source.
- Terminal Blocks: Some cameras have terminal block connectors, which allow for the connection of power cables, audio cables, or other specialized cables using screw terminals. Terminal blocks provide flexibility for various connections.
- HDMI or RCA Connectors: In some cases, cameras may have HDMI or RCA connectors for audio and video output. This is more common in high-end or specialty cameras used for specific applications.
- Wire Leads: Some smaller or specialty cameras may have wire leads instead of traditional connectors. These wires can be directly connected to other cables or equipment.
