PoC (Power over Coax) Analog Cameras

A power over coaxial or PoC camera is a security camera that can use a regular coaxial cable to both receive power and transfer analog signals to the recorder. Developed by Hikvision and Dahua, these cameras cut down on the cords needed for functionality while still providing excellent features such as:

• High definition
• Low light vision
• Motorized zoom

Each specialization and more are available as PoC cameras, being as effective as the alternative more heavily wired security cameras. Furthermore, each device requires only one industry standard RG59 coaxial cable and a specialized PoC digital video recorder. If such wiring is already put into place, then rewiring is not necessary. Instead, the only requirement when adding a PoC camera to an old system is the power over coaxial recorder, also primarily developed by Hikvision.

Like power over ethernet or PoE cameras, PoC cameras can do everything that other security cameras do, except with the caveat that they transfer both power and data through one cable instead of two. Furthermore, these cables can be used at greater lengths with the alternatives only extending to an 80-meter connection while PoC can achieve a 200-meter connection. However, keep in mind that special equipment for far-reaching connections may be required when looking to achieve the best possible resolution in video footage.

In simple terminology, power over coaxial works by connecting an applicable PoC camera to the correlating recorder of the exact nature using a standard RG59 coaxial cable. CT100 cables may also work in place of RG59 cables. Each cable has aspects of regular power cables in that they can carry electricity and feature insulation to keep it internalized. Furthermore, CoE also is built to carry the analog or high definition signal from the camera to the recorder more effectively.
